How we can help you

A person can develop a low opinion of themselves in a few different ways, but it is often due to their upbringing or a relationship. Abuse can trigger low self-esteem because the abuser often puts down the victim as part of asserting their emotional control over them.

There are many contributing factors in an individual’s life that can have a direct effect on one's self esteem.

Some of the many causes may include:

  • Unhappy childhood where parents or teachers were extremely critical
  • Poor academic performance in school resulting in a lack of confidence
  • Ongoing stressful life event
  • Poor treatment from a partner, parent or carer
  • Ongoing medical problems
  • Anxiety or depression

Signs of low self-esteem and confidence include

  • A lack of confidence
  • A sense of insecurity
  • Worrying a great deal
  • Self-consciousness
  • Difficulties making decisions
  • A lack or absence of assertiveness
  • An over-reliance on other people
  • A negative outlook
  • Avoidance of rejection
  • Self-blame
  • Holding onto afflictive emotions
  • Having an acute sense of personal failure or of not being liked or loved
  • Focusing on what they can’t do vs. what they can

If you are lacking confidence or it seems to elude you when you need it most, then our confidence building program can be tailored to suit your particular needs and personality.
